- 1.5 lbs. sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/3 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
- 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Remove steak from refrigerator 20 minutes before cooking and cut into uniform 1-inch cubes against the grain.
- Pat steak cubes completely dry with paper towels and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Heat a large skillet over high heat until smoking hot, then add olive oil.
- Sear steak cubes in batches for 2 minutes per side, leaving space between pieces, then transfer to a plate.
- Reduce heat to medium and add minced garlic and ginger, stirring for 30 seconds.
- Add soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil, whisking to combine and simmering for 2 minutes.
- Stir cornstarch slurry and pour into sauce while whisking constantly until thickened, about 30-60 seconds.
- Return steak bites to pan with accumulated juices and toss to coat in glaze for 30 seconds.
- Transfer to serving platter and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving hot.
