Description

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp cloves
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup hot water or strong coffee
  • ½ cup sour cream or yogurt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and spices in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Add eggs, molasses, and sour cream.
  4. Slowly add dry ingredients and hot water. Mix until smooth.
  5. Pour into loaf pan and bake 55–65 minutes.
  6. Cool for 15 minutes in pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
