Bake this cozy harvest apple spice loaf with crunchy glaze – a warm, spiced fall treat perfect for family gatherings


Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled and diced
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp coarse sugar (for crunch)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease loaf pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, spices, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugars. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk. Fold in diced apples.
  5. Pour batter into loaf pan. Bake 55–65 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Prepare glaze: whisk powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon.
  7. Pour glaze over warm loaf. Sprinkle coarse sugar on top.

Notes

  • Use two types of apples for best flavor.
    Swap half the butter for applesauce for a lighter loaf.
    Store at room temp 3 days, freeze up to 2 months.
